Key Concepts to get in focus before you design your evangelistic concert

A.  What are you doing?

In an evangelistic concert you are really trying to ‘design a human event’ wherein you are . . .

1.    Connecting with a Context
. . . so you must be ‘culturally relevant’
[i.e. your music, jargon, dress, and manner of presentation must be very familiar to your audience.]
     Each audience is ‘someplace’
     Every audience is different
One style or approach will not fit every audience ‘context’
You must relate in familiar terms, pluck familiar heart strings, talk familiar language (i.e. be culturally  relevant)
. . . because nothing has meaning out of ‘context.’

2.    Establishing a Relationship
. . . so you must be ‘relational’
[i.e. you are establishing relationship with your audience]

3.    Creating an Environment

4.    Publicly Praising

5.    Telling His Story [Story Telling]

6.    Creating a Crisis [Reaching for Reaction]

7.    Calling for Decision [Confronting the issues of sin and self-rule]

B.  How are you doing it?  [That is, in a music and/or arts evangelism concert how are you ‘effecting’ the evangelizing activity?]

1.    Celebration—through musical Praise & Worship—musically acclaiming truth about who God is and what He has done/is doing

2.    Explanation–through musically Story Telling how God works, the cost of remaining distant from Him, and how to become rightly related

3.    Proclamation—through musically Declaring biblical truth about the way things are, the way life is, why we hurt, who God is, what God does, and how to be rightly related to Him

4.    Persuasion—as you Musically press for a change of heart in those who are listening to you.
